So I'm giving myself a meter, a rhyming scheme, a theme and a subject, and then I'll write to that. And I'll record my progress through this journal.
Do not expect frequent updates, I'm currently working 50+ hour weeks.
---
So, for now, I'll go with forms that I know I'm comfortable with, next time I'll try something a little more complex.
Meter: Trochaic Tetrameter
Rhyming Pattern: ABAB
Now, for theme I'm going with the mood that a comparison of archetypes creates in me. This will be the mood I try to create in the poem. This could be archetypes opposed (man vs nature) or directly related to each other (death as change). But here I'm more confident, so I'm going with something from the left field. I generally think of archetypes as uncountable nouns that have some symbolism inherent. So, looking around me, I see a pair of headphones. That leads my to the archetype Sound, and I see a bag of muesli, which leads me to the archtype of Nourishment. Because they feel more similar than different, I'll go the hard route.
Theme: Sound vs. Nourishment.
Next I want a subject. This should be an object or event that is fairly general so I can find my own metaphors. And at least for now, I'm going to keep it everyday. And looking outside my window, I find it.
Subject: A parking lot.

So, what does Sound vs. Nourishment mean to me. Well, sound is the tricky one here, so I'll start with that. Closing my eyes I find that sound is lonely, I guess because I'm used to eye contact. Sound is sad but hopeful. Sound is unpredictable. And life would be much less without sound.
Looking at Nourishment, it's a transformation from need to satisfaction. It's basic to life and thus very old. It ties itself close to Hunger but also to Love and Tenderness. And it's constructive.
These two compared to each other I see the similarties right away. They're both something near neccesary to life. They are both 'good things'. And they both seem to have some age to them.
But we're looking at how they are different. Sound is unpredictable while Nourishment is constructive, not opposites, but a good comparison. Sound is lonely while Nourishment is care giving. Sound is waiting for change while Nourisment is actively changing. Noursihment wants while sound waits.
Feeling these comparisons I start to know where I'm going. This poem is about waiting for change versus experiencing change. Hoping for love versus feeling loved. Feeling like a nobody versus making yourself a somebody. Unstability versus stability.
---
Now I want to find some metaphors for what this means in a parking lot. I really see an empty parking lot as being lonely, or maybe a single car parked by itself. Yes, a single car by itself on a cold day feels unloved. It's an old car, been there for days. Rusting paint, could fall apart at any time. And how is a car loved other than being fixed and taken care of. So I see a mechanic pulling up beside it and helping it. And once its fixed it is able to go be somebody by driving out whole. I think I've got all my themes tied into there, but before I start writing, there's one more exercise for me to go through.
---
I want to find some lines or parts of lines that follow the meter and the symbolism that I've just developed, but I'm going to have to wait for another day on that.

thank you so much for all the comments and for adding me to your watcher list.
